I finally got courage to put together and paint
the toaster kit I'd bought for the dollhouse.
Knowing my previous failures with painting metal
I was really unsure of how to go about it.
Elizabeth at Studio E recommends nail polish
for lots of dollhouse details
so I tried that first....
it chipped off as it dried :((
Ok,
time to try Tamiya Metal Primer.
That stayed on and gave me hope!
Tamiya Gloss Black over the Primer,
hold breath, cross fingers.
Yay!
Success!
And I love this toaster!
A lovely breakfast table display , the toaster looking god :)
ReplyDeleteLove the bread basket !
Hi Janne! I love Lidi Strouds baskets too! Thanks for leaving a lovely comment.
DeleteThe toaster is lovely Susan but what a delightful scene :)
ReplyDeleteHi Laura! I'd spent much time trying to think how to make a toaster like this so when I saw this one I was wrapt. The dollhouse family a pleased with it too, when the kitchen fire is out they can still have toast ;)
DeleteWell done, your kitchen is looking good! And I'm glad that your metal painting was a success :) ps. I find that nail polish never works for me either..
ReplyDeleteLucia
Hi Lucia, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has problems with painting! Thanks for visiting :)
DeleteWhat a great toaster. I remember those from when I was a child and how you had to be careful not to burn the toast!
ReplyDeleteI rather expected to open the post and see egg cosies, Susan. :p
Christine, if you could only see what flashed through my mind when I read "egg cosies"....well, perhaps you will some day!
DeleteI was so excited when I saw this toaster, the perfect vintage for my dollhouse. Heheh, we've been reminiscing here about the responsible position of toast maker when we were kids too, if you were really good you could turn the toast with a quick flip of the door instead of burning your fingers!
Good Morning! O` yes please: everything looks so delicious, I don`t know where to start.. :)

Kikka
Hi Kikka, thanks for visiting! Please pull up a chair and share a boiled egg and toast :) I'm so happy to read your comment!
DeleteA toaster of this sort brings back so many lovely memories for me of my maternal grandmother when she made my toasts in the morning. That was back in the forties. I love it. You did a super job!
ReplyDeleteHi Lucille, thanks for your very encouraging words about my painting! Aren't miniatures wonderful the way they bring back warm memories of childhood? I too have happy memories of breakfasts at grandparents kitchen table, hence my reason for wanting the 'perfect' vintage toaster in my dollhouse.
DeleteThe toaster is fantastic. I like this table.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Faby
Hi Faby, I'm glad you like my kitchen, thanks so much for visiting!

ReplyDeleteLa mesa te ha quedado muy bien!! Y el tostador me encanta y tiene su cable!!
Un saludo, Helena.
Hi Helena, thanks for your lovely comment! I'm glad you enjoyed a peek into my small world :)
DeleteThe toaster looks good and I love the table with all the display on it.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Drora
Hi Drora, thanks for looking :) I'm glad you like the toaster and breakfast table!!
DeleteHello Susan, painting the metal toaster worked out very well this time! It's a great addition to your already beautiful kitchen.
ReplyDeleteHi Liduina, thanks for visiting. I'm glad you enjoyed looking!
DeleteOh Susan, thanks for sharing this tip, I often have a miniature like this of metal and I can't paint it either. Tamiya is not known by me, please, where can we buy it?
ReplyDeleteHugs, Ilona
Hi Ilona, painting metal has always been unsuccessful for me too. A friend recommended the Tamiya Primer and I'm so glad I got it! You can find it on ebay.
