New Clothes for the Dollhouse Babies

I haven't done much miniature work this year
but I have managed a little crochet.

First an excited little sun-kick!

When the breeze turns a little cooler and it's time for a nap.

Dressed to go shopping with mum.

And when the summer is over it's time to rug up.

  5. Hello Susan!
    Q. What have you been up to lately, Susan?
    A. Oh nothing much, I just did a little crochet of 3 of the cutest and most adorable little baby outfits, complete with matching bonnets and booties in the most beautiful stitch and in the most delicate colors and with the prettiest little details for the 3 cutest little babies and made their tiny toys and teddies too but other than that ....... ( sigh) I haven't done much at all!

Susan, I do so admire your 'not much', SO MUCH!

    1. Heehee Elizabeth :) I love reading your comments! Nope, I didn't make the toys recently, sorry, they were co-opted as props. Thanks for liking my little vintage baby clothes!

    4. Hey Susan! Do you ever wonder why new mothers don't adopt these 'vintage' styles for their little ones anymore? I know that fashions come and go but when someone sees a baby dressed like one of these belly button babies, .... well, they are just so darn cute and so adorable that if I was a new mom I would want my baby done up like one of your miniature ones! It is just too bad that these styles have to go back on the shelf in real life. I love bonnets and booties and little vests!

    5. Hi Elizabeth, You sound like me here, I did dress my babies in crocheted things I made myself even though the all-in-one stretch suit had made its appearance by the time I had babies. I think old style baby clothes are cuddly and let babies be babies, not the small adults they appear to be in their modern designer jeans etc.

I do wonder why more modern mothers don't adopt vintage styles for their babies. There are quite a lot of young women taking on the retro look for themselves but they don't seem to follow through for their babies!

I think we miniaturists are excellent historians, we create things that would otherwise be lost. Photos are not quite the same as a 3D representation are they? In that vein, I've been trying to find a photo of an old Aussie icon - the chip heater. Every home had one pre-1950 but finding a photo of such a mundane object is like finding hens teeth! No-one dreams that every day items will one day be but a memory. Look at computers...my 2nd grandson and I made a boys bedroom as a christmas project when he was 8, including a computer - the old sort with the big back. A mere 8 years later and we have flat screens so this little roombox is already historical ;))

Pardon my writing an epistle here, I'm up on my miniature hobby horse ;)

  7. OMG - so tiny - so cute!!

(BTW I had a problem a couple of days ago with advertising links suddenly appearing on my blog too - I can't think now just how I found the offender and got rid of it - if you are using Chrome take a look in your extensions list for anything that you haven't seen before - it's more likely that the problem is on your computer rather than something 'blogger' is up to.)

    1. Oh Norma, I love your faith in my ability to find 'extensions' :)) or even to know what they are ;) However, thankyou so much for alerting me. I've done my usual 'click on everything and see what happens' and might have fixed the evil trolls - we shall see.

Thanks for your sweet comment too!

  10. Ho, ho, ho Ginny, you're very cheeky today! Actually, I dressed 13 of the little tykes for a friend this past year, besides making for my own BBB's and also for another friend. They're very popular little babies, just the right size for 1/12th scale.

  13. Wow! I'm so impressed, Susan! Each of your mini scenes is adorable, and I love the mini clothes and stuffed animals. Did you make all of these? You are so talented in so many ways! And if it makes you feel better, I don't know what "extensions" are either! ;-) xo Jennifer

    1. There's a big smile on my face as I read your comment Jennifer ;) Extensions? I still don't know what they are but unticking one of them saved my blog from those evil trolls who were putting advertising into my posts :] That's a satisfied and somewhat evil grin from me.

Yes, I did all the crochet, it's my only real talent and I love doing it. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, I appreciate it so much!

  15. Hi Susan, these little baby's are soooo sweet and adorable! This is really masterwork, so neat, delicate and tiny, it is fantastic work! Now I know what you meant with your baby's in your comment on my blogpost of the baby walker ;)!
I have never seen this kind of miniature baby's, where can one buy them? Only on fairs, oh, I don't hope so....sigh!

    1. Hi Ilona! Your comment has brought a smile to my face, thankyou!! Heheh, babies always drool but my babies were drooling a lot when I showed them your amazing baby items :) (Really it was me drooling but I blamed the babies to save the embarrassment of an old lady)

Thankyou for your sweet comment, I'm glad you enjoyed looking.

      Email me about the babies.

Huggies back to you ;) We have those diapers too so maybe I will say 'Huggles' instead!

  19. I love this little scene! I would love to learn how to knit mini items! Is it a lot harder to do than regular knitting? I have an unfinished scarf that is almost done...Do you sell your minis?

    1. Hi Ruth, thanks for visiting and leaving such a nice comment! I find miniature crochet relatively easy but you need patience. It's my only real talent and I love doing it. Sorry, I don't sell.

  20. Susan, I came to see what's new and realised that I have missed this post showcasing some of your really amazing work.

How can mini crochet be your only talent? I don;t believe ! People who can work miracles like you must surely be good at a million things (although yes, that will be totally unfair) . Knitted wears are not popular here because of our weather but in minis, little crochet toys and clothes deserve a place in the museum!

  21. Hi Sans, big wave from Downunder! I know all about your sort of climate (my kids were born 4 degrees south of the equator) so I understand the clothing restrictions, but I did make crocheted baby clothes for my babies from cotton - with nice open stitches for coolness. That's why many of my dollhouse baby clothes are for warmer weather but since these were going to Kensington Fair with my dear friend Lidi, I had to make snuggly warm clothes to suit the needs of the northern climate dollhouse babies :) The simple little jacket and pilcher set did not sell well!

Haha, crochet really is my only talent. All else is hit and miss ;) but it's about having fun and sharing with friends eh?? Thanks for your comments, I love it when friends visit!
